Microsoft is getting itself in deeper and deeper. Caldera CEO Bryan Sparks claims that his company's efforts to convince hardware manufacturers to offer systems bundled with Caldera Linux were stymied by threats from Microsoft to pull their license. Microsoft denies the charges, but Dell computer has admitted that they wouldn't even consider bundling another OS for fear of offending Micosoft.
A Wired News article covers JOS, a free Java operating system currently in development. JOS is targeting th mainstream computer user directly, unlike other Java incarnations, and will be user friendly and be able to replace Windows on desktop PCs.
A PC Week editorial bemoans the fact that PCs are still far from being as reliable as the other machines we use every day.
