4 July 1998 - Happy Independence Day

The horror, the horror. The Onion reports: "Determined to circumvent Justice Department action forestalling the release of his powerful new operating system, Microsoft CEO and evil genius Bill Gates dropped Windows 98, coded into liquid form, into New York City's water supply sometime this past weekend."

This is older news, but its importance is slowly being realized by the high tech community. Cellular communications giants Nokia and Ericsson, after being courted aggressively by Microsoft, decided on the Psion's EPOC OS for their upcoming intelligent wireless phones. This is being heralded as a huge blow to Windows CE. Why is this such a big deal? Because in the near future, wireless telephone/computer hybrids could become more numerous than PCs. With Microsoft out of the running, their world domination could be thwarted. Time will tell if other major wireless phone makers such as Qualcomm will follow suit.
