Bill Gates says that IBM and Sun are Microsoft's biggest competition for the future. Analysts think that this means that MS believes it has finished off Netscape and Novell and will set its sights on new targets.
Oracle is jumping into Linux with both feet, forming partnerships with Red Hat Software, VA Research, SuSE, and Japanese firm Pacific HiTech. Mark Jarvis, Oracle's senior vice president of worldwide marketing said, "The response to our recent decision to support Linux was a collective sigh of relief from developers worldwide who are looking for a low-cost alternative to Windows NT."
